Glyn Thomas

I am a Designer.

My view is that a competitive advantage can be gained through applying the design skill set through the product development cycle.

Simply put - through design, businesses can find new opportunities and realise better outcomes. Sounds good hey!

What do I actually do?

What do I actually do?

I manage the UX Design Team at nib Health funds. The team is composed of UX Designers and Digital Producers who participate in Cross Functional Agile development teams.

It's a blast :)

What does this mean though?

What does this mean though?

The team members find the best possible way to create excellent experiences for nib's customers and prospective customers through it's website and mobile apps. They spend their time discovering customers needs, clarifying the problem at hand exploring multiple possible solutions and finding the best one to build. They then evaluate what has been built and keep on improving. As long as it is still worth it.

But, what do I do?

But, what do I do?

I focus on creating a work environment that ensures team members have the focus to get the job done, the alignment to know which direction they are going and the autonomy to act on the expertise and creativity they bring.

How do I achieve this?

How do I achieve this?

I talk frequently with team members and stakeholders to ensure I understand the culture they work in then respond accordingly to ensure the culture nurtures innovation and sustainability

I talk to stakeholders to understand the business model, pain points and opportunities so that I can support teams wherever possible to work alongside stakeholders.

I build a community where individuals learn together and share their work in progress so that we have the most effective teams possible.

I develop the practice of design at nib through skills development, process improvement and a rigorous approach to how we apply design thinking.

What else do I do?
